There is a lot of construction going on around the Joyce-Collingwood neighborhood these days it is currently going through significant redevelopment.  Close to the transit hub, there is a lot of steel and glass construction going on, all in preparation for more density.    The neighborhood is socially and culturally diverse overall, more so compared to the rest of the city.   It has a greater percentage of low-income residents and newcomers.  It’s a real mix there’s a great range of ages, a lot of students and young people.  Formerly an industrial area, the area in the immediate vicinity of this station is being redeveloped as Collingwood Village, a denser community of high-rise condominiums. The “Collingwood” portion of the name was added in 2001.

Joyce–Collingwood Skytrain station is an elevated station on the Expo Line.  The station is located on Joyce Street at Vanness Avenue, in the Collingwood neighbourhood.   TransLink has completed an extensive renovation and expansion, which includes a new entrance with a new elevator, up-and-down escalators, expanded concourse areas, a secure bike parkade, and a retail space.   They are trying to transform the area around the station into a vibrant area point into the community and working to increase housing, diversity and achieve a more coherent and connective neighborhood.
